Casabrews CM5418 Review
The honest pitch is not that it matches a $450 machine. It is that it is a low-risk way to find out whether you like making espresso.
The Casabrews CM5418 costs around $140 on Amazon, and it is one of the best-selling espresso machines in its price range, with owner ratings around 4.3 stars across thousands of reviews.
What you get
A real espresso machine at a very low price. It has a pump, a portafilter, and a steam wand for milk, so you can make shots, lattes, and cappuccinos.
A pressure gauge. Rare at this price, and genuinely useful for learning what a good shot looks like.
A compact stainless steel body. It takes up little counter space and looks nicer than most machines at this price.
Where it cuts corners
Pressurized baskets. Machines at this price use baskets that are forgiving of imperfect grinds, but they also limit how good your shots can get. This is a ceiling you will notice if you get serious.
A "20 bar" label that does not mean what it says. The number describes the pump's maximum, not the pressure at which espresso is brewed. See our guide to what these specs mean.
Long-term durability is the common question. Many owners are happy, but at this price, expect a machine you may eventually replace rather than keep for a decade. Descaling regularly helps, as covered in our cleaning guide.
Who should buy it
Buy it if you are new to espresso and want to try it without a big commitment. If you end up loving it, you will know what to look for in an upgrade. If you do not, you have not spent much.
Who should skip it
Skip it if you already know you will use it daily for years. Spending more once, on something like the Gaggia Classic Pro, usually works out better.
Verdict
It is not a machine that competes with ones three times the price, and it does not need to. For about $140, it is a sensible, low-risk way to start.
